About Me

khuram1

My friend Ovais calls me Khurram Fish. He has saved my name as “Khurram Fish” in his mobile phones address book. By now you would also start calling me Khurram Fish, but maybe you can call me SOAP, not the hand washing soap but like SOAP, (Solution of All Problems).

Yes, I’ve said it, I like solving problems, and I am pretty good at it, normally I only solved computer related problems, but even if I cannot solve your problem, I would give you a shoulder to cry on and point you in the right direction.

I’d love to hear from you about your experiences in keeping and breeding fish, and keeping them in planted aquariums.

I started keeping aquarium fishes when I was 5. My father bought me my first 2 foot aquarium with goldfishes and I used to sit in front of it on a chair for hours at end. Watching and studying them as they eat and swim around.

slowly I learned about filtration and aeration.

My first experience with Aquarium plants started when my cousin “Kamber” brought me some Indian fern, which grew and my interest developed.

Then I had joined an organization called Pals, Pakistan Animal Lovers Society, where I met Mahasin, he got me started in experimenting with different gravels, plants and lighting.

He introduced me to his friend “Ovais” who refined my concepts about aquarium plants. He also supplied me with an endless number of plant varieties to experiment with.

Because in this hobby, you have to naturalize the new plants to live in your own climate. In Nurseries plants are grown in high humidity environment (out of water) only their roots are in water, also fertilizer is added to the running water, and under different lighting, the growth of plants is accelerated.

So once you bring the plants home, you plant them under water and 90% of times they die, because they are not able to live under the changed conditions, water quality (PH) levels, water changes etc. make all the difference.

About lighting:

too little lighting= plants die,

too much lighting = Algae

right light = plant grow.

also note, different plant varieties need different levels of light, some need more light, some require less light.
